The Christmas season is a time when family members come together. After exchanging pleasantries, opening presents, and eating food, what will you and your loved ones do together on Christmas day? Are you looking for fun ways to bond with cousins, aunts, and uncles that you have not seen in a long time? Plenty of recreational family Christmas activities exist for you and your family to break the ice and build on your relationships.

Family Christmas Activity #1 Games

Games are always a great way to get everyone involved, bonding with each other, and have a good laugh. What games go well at Christmas? Pictionary is a classic game that everyone can play. You will need a large dry-erase board and markers to enjoy this family Christmas activity. Also, one person will have to act as host and create the pre-determined prompts for the players to sketch. You can even take this a step further and have the prompts be related to Christmas. Another entertaining game option would be a Christmas-movie trivia contest. Once again, someone will have to act as host and create questions for the game. If you have a smaller group of family members and have board games on hand, consider playing a friendly game of Scrabble.

Family Christmas Activity #2 Singing Carols

Singing Christmas carols can bring families together and is another festive family Christmas activity. If you have a musician in the family with a piano or other musical instruments available, playing those can help encourage family members to sing along. Not everyone has exceptional singing skills, but singing can still be delightful. If you have young children, encourage them to participate as well. Print out plenty of copies of the carols’ lyrics before Christmas day. You and your guests might not remember all the words to your favorite holiday songs. Singing together can also have health benefits releasing the feel-good hormone oxytocin and can improve your mood.

Family Christmas Activity #3 Building a Snowman

Does snow fall in your city? Building a snowman is another family Christmas activity. If you have moist and wet snow, you probably have a better chance of making a good snowman. Snow that is too dry or powder-like will not hold together. Do not forget to add twigs for arms, coal for eyes, and a carrot for a nose. If you live in a region of the country that does not get snow, you can also get creative and help your children make paper snowmen. It’s enjoyable for adults too.

Whatever activities you decide to engage in with your family and loved ones. I hope you have a joyous time celebrating the Christmas holiday.
