Recent health studies show that your morning cup of coffee might be doing a lot more than just waking you up. According to BMC Public Health, drinking three to four cups of coffee a day could lower the risk of liver cancer and other liver diseases. Researchers discovered this after studying the coffee‑drinking habits of about 500,000 people between the ages of 40 and 69.
The study found that people who drink coffee have a 21% lower chance of developing chronic liver disease. Even more surprisingly, coffee drinkers were almost 50% less likely to die from liver problems compared to people who don’t drink coffee at all. Researchers say the best amount is three to four cups a day. Drinking too much can lead to other health issues, so it’s important to keep it in moderation.
Studies also show that coffee may help protect your heart. One study published in Circulation: Heart Failure found that drinking one cup of coffee a day can lower the risk of heart failure by 5 to 12 percent. Another study showed that drinking two or more cups a day can lower that risk by 30 percent. Interestingly, decaf coffee did not offer the same benefits, which suggests that caffeine may be the key factor.
