Happy AEP

We have hit the busiest time of the year for an insurance agent selling Medicare. Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) is a set time each year that an individual can change their Medicare coverage. AEP opens on October 15 and closes on December 7. Anyone who makes changes will see those go into effect on January 1.

During these seven and a half weeks, you will run around trying to get as many new enrollments as possible and even servicing your old clients. Therefore, it may seem impossible to manage your time wisely. That is why we have compiled a few tips to help your time management during this AEP.

Time Management 101

While we provide these tips to help you navigate AEP efficiently, you can also implement these strategies throughout the rest of the year for all situations.

Make a to-do list. A good practice to ensure that you make time for everything you need to get done is by writing down a list of those tasks. You can review it as you work through the day and adjust your schedule accordingly. For example, if you have three client appointments, five applications to submit, and a carrier training to attend, you will create a to-do list and dedicate an allotted time to get each thing done.

Try not to multitask. When you have your to-do list, it is best to undertake each task one at a time. If you try to complete two things at once, you risk forgetting things or not doing either of the assignments to the best of your ability. Instead, when you are working and suddenly think of something else to finish, jot it down so you won’t forget.

Don’t jump from task to task. It may seem very efficient to finish one project and jump right into the next one. However, that practice has the opposite effect. Without a break, it is more challenging to stay focused and motivated on the task at hand. After all, our brains can only focus for about 90 minutes at a time. Take a break between projects and recharge.

Stay organized. During AEP, you will work with tons of clients. They each have different paperwork and notes associated with their case. Are you wasting time looking through all your files to find the correct client paperwork? Staying organized saves you time to be used on completing other waiting tasks.

AEP can get chaotic, but with the right time management strategies, you can make it your best one yet!
